Welcome to Woongoolba State School!
We are delighted to extend a warm and hearty welcome to all of you as you become a part of the Woongoolba State School family. At Woongoolba State School, we believe in creating an environment that fosters not just academic growth but also a sense of belonging and connection within our close-knit country-like community nestled amongst the cane fields of South East Queensland and only minutes away from both the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
"Achievement Our Goal" – For All students through Equity and Excellence
At Woongoolba State School, we believe every child who walks through our gates holds the potential for greatness. Our dedicated team is committed to nurturing that potential by providing the support, guidance, and encouragement each student needs to thrive. We know that with determination, hard work, and the right opportunities, every student can achieve their goals—no matter how ambitious they may be.
Every child deserves a champion, and we take pride in being that champion—advocating for, guiding, and celebrating every learner’s success. Through the Department of Education’s Equity and Excellence strategy, we remain focused on ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their highest level of achievement.
Reading, Writing, and PBL: Our Priorities
We are committed to providing your children with the best possible education and ensuring their success in life. To achieve this, we have identified three key priority areas:
Reading: We recognise the profound impact that literacy skills have on a child's educational journey. Our dedicated teachers are committed to cultivating a love for reading in your child and helping them become confident, skilled readers. Through personalised teaching of reading, based on the latest research into reading, engaging libraries, and interactive reading initiatives, we aim to empower our students with the gift of literacy.
Writing: Effective communication is a cornerstone of success in today's world. We are committed to nurturing your child's writing abilities, encouraging them to express themselves creatively and effectively. Our writing programs, based on the work of Dr. Lynn Sharratt and her research Clarity, are designed to help students develop strong writing skills, from composing imaginative stories to crafting persuasive essays.
PBL (Positive Behaviour Support and Learning): At Woongoolba State School, we prioritise the social and emotional development of our students. We have implemented Positive Behaviour for Learning to create a respectful and inclusive school culture where all students can learn in a safe and supportive school environment. Through PBL, we teach our students the expected behaviour to support engagement in learning and encourage students through incredible student focused acknowledgement systems. We also equip our students through the teaching of essential life skills, such as problem-solving, conflict resolution, and teamwork, which will serve them well throughout their lives.
A Strong Community Connection
We take great pride in our school's location in the heart of a small country community, just moments away from the South East's hustle and bustle. Our unique setting allows students to experience the best of both worlds – the tranquillity and community spirit of the countryside, coupled with the opportunities and resources of urban life.
We understand the importance of strong family-school partnerships and encourage your active involvement in your child's education. Together, we can ensure that your child thrives academically, socially, and emotionally during their time at Woongoolba State School.
